Learning How To Save On Auto Insurance With A Few Quick Tips ...

Finding cheaper auto insurance is as easy as requesting insurance quotes. Requesting just one quote may not do the trick, but if you request several quotes online, you will probably find a substantial variance in the rates quoted by different providers. Even with exactly the same information about you and your driving history, every insurer looks at you a little differently. Certain insurers place more weight on factors such as your age or the car you drive. You could be just a few quotes away from saving a lot of money on your car insurance.

Keep your insurance updated with who is actually driving your car. A lot of parents forget to take their children off of their insurance even after they have moved out and gotten coverage of their own. The more drivers on your policy the more you are paying so make sure and keep it up to date.

Look for group discount rates on your auto insurance. If you belong to any kind of trade organization, or have eligibility for group rates through any kind of group, such as your employer, you may be able to get a good discount on your rates. You may need to purchase your insurance through the organization to get the discount, so ask up front.

Do not settle for the first auto insurance company that you find. You may be missing out on special discounts or rewards. For instance, some insurance companies offer discounted premiums for accident-free drivers, or for people of certain professions. Some even give discounts to college students who maintain good grades.

The type of car that you drive can have a dramatic impact on your auto insurance rate. Sports cars, high performance vehicles and autos frequently targeted by thieves, all result in high rates for the driver. If you are considering purchasing one of these vehicles, make sure you can afford the higher insurance rates as well as your loan payments.

If you have a car that is considered to be a classic or special model, you may want to consider joining an auto club that is related to your vehicle. Many auto clubs offer insurance discounts that could end up saving you thousands of dollars a year, while also having reliable and trustworthy car insurance.

To save money on your insurance, consider what making a claim will cost you before reporting it. Asking the company to make a $600 repair when you have a $500 deductible is only going to net you $100 but may cause your premiums to go up more than that, for the next three years

If you are just beginning to drive, make sure you are on a policy with an older, more experienced driver. Many automobile insurance companies offer a lower rate if a young driver is paired up on the same policy as an older one. If possible, this is a great tactic for reducing your family?s car insurance rate.

With these helpful tips hopefully, you can have a better idea about the decision you want to make about your auto insurance. These tips are there to help you when you are searching for the right coverage for you, so make sure you remember the main points from these tips, so that you can make the right decision.

To find the top auto body repair springfield mo make sure you take your time and choose the best company for you.

Microsoft Surface tablet to launch 26 October with Windows 8

Microsoft's own-branded Surface tablet will launch on 26 October, the same day as Windows 8.

?

?

The first of these will be the Windows RT version of the Surface tablet, but there are no details yet on other Surface devices that might launch at the same time or soon after. The wording of the filing suggests that Microsoft has a slew of products up its sleeve, and a recent report by Intel suggested that there are 20 Intel-powered Windows 8 tablets on the way. Microsoft plans to release a version of the Surface tablet with an Intel processor, so this is likely one of the ?series? the document refers to.

?

?

The filing also revealed the requirements Microsoft needs to meet for Windows 8 to be deemed a success:

?

?In fall 2012, we are launching Windows 8, a major new release of our PC operating system that seeks to deliver a unique user experience through well-integrated software, hardware, and services. Its success depends on a number of factors including the extent to which customers embrace its new user interface and functionality, successfully coordinating with our OEM partners in releasing a variety of hardware devices that take advantage of its features, and attracting developers at scale to ensure a competitive array of quality applications.?

?

The company also expects to eat into its operating profits by paying ?substantial marketing costs? in order to make the Windows 8 launch as successful as possible.

Folly Friday - Gesture controlled cars, 'naughtiest' drivers and a gory Ford advert!

27 Jul 2012

Folly Friday returns again to focus on the lighter side of the car industry and motoring! This week features...

Control your car with winks, nods and arm waves

Ever wanted to control your car instruments with your face? Or with your arms like you're playing with an Xbox Kinect?

In-car entertainment providers Harman will soon have you covered, for it has developed a system which puts infra-red sensors behind the dashboard, which then can read facial expressions and gestures as commands for a car's onboard equipment.

With the sensors in place, a driver won't even have to push a button to activate gadgets. A simple wink will turn the radio on or off, a nod to the left will turn the speakers up while a nod right will reduce the volume, you could even change station by tapping the steering wheel.

Making a phone gesture with your hand (like you're appearing in a Phones4u advert) will even answer calls on a car's Bluetooth input.

The makers of this technology insist you'll be able to use it whilst keeping your eyes on the road at the same time, giving you a new way to drive and look funny at the same time.

Just make sure you're not rocking out to Black Sabbath when you go for a pint of milk...

Hit and Run driver takes out four scooters, paramedics simply drive past

This onboard car footage is shocking in several ways as it captures a hit and run collision involving another vehicle in the midst of a busy central road in Taiwan.

After recklessly driving through a red light and knocking down four scooter drivers, the offending driver takes a couple of glances at the damage he's made before driving away.

What's really baffling though is seeing all the many car and scooter drivers continue past the immediate aftermath of this collision in a seemingly indifferent manner, with the exception of one single passer-by.

Just to add more salt to the wounds an ambulance van drives straight past the stricken scooter drivers at one point!

Maybe the ambulance was already trying to get patients urgently to hospital, but still the general reaction from other traffic to the crash suggests it's an alarmingly common occurrence in Taiwan...

Funeral Directors are Britain's 'naughtiest drivers'

Research from the car insurance comparison website tiger.co.uk has uncovered how far on average drivers in certain jobs travel before committing a driving offence.

Out of 313 occupations listed, the results remarkably show that Funeral Directors drive the least distance before breaking the laws of the road, which has seen them labelled Britain's 'naughtiest' drivers.

They are followed closely by dancing teachers, haulage contractors and landscapers at the top end of the naughty list.

At the opposite end of the scale dentists, legal clerks, cloakroom attendants and (most surprising of all) students are found to be better at keeping within the rules of the road better than most.

Police officers meanwhile ranked 196th on the list out of all the occupations covered.

BMW cars painted by Warhol and Hockney on display at London 2012

In case you haven't heard the Olympics are at London this year.

BMW is one of the main sponsors for this year's event, and one interesting part of their tie-up this week is the free-to-attend exhibition of the BMW Art Car Collection. The event showcases paintjob designs from professional artists spanning 35 years from 1975 to 2010.

There's plenty of wild and funky pieces of work to see like the BMW M3 GT2 seen above. It was designed by American artist Jeff Koons and even raced at the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Teens' car park abduction hoax leaves police not amused

Over the years there have been many stunts involving teenagers and cars that have gotten captured on video and online, all daring and mostly stupid.

Police in New York would certainly add this particular stunt to the list of stupid, which saw three teens, a 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old female and a juvenile girl fake abduction.

The 'suspicious incident' took place at night in a supermarket car park in Syracuse, New York. Here CCTV caught what appeared to be a man putting an unconscious woman in the boot of a car.

Syracuse Police never actually called the incident an abduction, but found it impossible to ignore. They were troubled by how blatant it was, even in front of witnesses who were shopping at the time.

"It's almost like he wanted someone to see it," said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan in a press conference. "That's why we don't know what we have here".

When the incident was publicised by police, the three teens came forward and confessed to the prank.

The teens could now face charges for the act which Sgt. Connellan described as "incredibly stupid".

And finally...

Romney: 'I'm convinced' London is ready for the Games

By Scott Stump

After his questioning London's preparedness for the Olympics became front-page tabloid fodder, Mitt Romney spoke out on the gaffe Friday.

?I read the same reports I think a lot of people did about all the challenges being faced by the organizing committee, but after being here a couple of days, it looks like London is ready,?? Romney told Matt Lauer in an interview alongside his wife at TODAY's London set. ?I?m absolutely convinced the people here are ready for the Games.??

In an interview Wednesday with NBC?s Brian Williams, Romney ignited London headlines like Friday?s ?Mitt the Twit? in The Sun when he wondered aloud whether the security and infrastructure of the city was ready for the Games. It was a poorly-timed stumble, as Romney is on a diplomatic journey to the United Kingdom, Israel and Poland.

?It?s hard to know just how well it will turn out,?? Romney told Williams. ?There are a few things that were disconcerting ? stories about the private security firm not having enough people, a supposed strike of the immigrations and customs officials that obviously is not something which is encouraging.??

That prompted a thinly-veiled shot by British prime minister David Cameron, who alluded to Romney?s role in organizing the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

?We?re holding an Olympic games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world,?? Cameron said in a statement. ?Of course, it?s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.??

Video: London mayor: Venues 'as safe as we can make them'

?Of course it is hard to put on Games in a major metropolitan area,?? Romney told Lauer. ?What they?ve done that I find so impressive is they took the venues and put them right in the city. You?re going to be able to be just in the backside of 10 Downing Street for beach volleyball.

?In just a few moments, all the things politicians say will get swept away because the athletes finally take the stage. The Games are about the athletes. That?s why the Games virtually anywhere they?ve been have been highly successful.??

The Romneys have a direct connection to the competition, as Ann Romney?s horse, Rafalca, will compete in the Olympic event of dressage.

?Watching my horse, it?s like watching your children play sports,?? Ann told Lauer. ?I know every move that she makes, I know when she makes mistakes, I know what her weaknesses are, I know where she may lose the confidence of the rider a little bit. It is nerve-wracking.??

Mitt will not watch his wife?s horse compete due to his schedule during the diplomatic visit, but he knows her passion for the competition. He joked that one year his sons gave him a rubber horse mask to wear so that Ann would pay more attention to him.

?I give him a pass when it comes to my horses because he?s so, so supportive of me, having to put up with my love of horses,?? Ann said.

The multi-millionaire former governor has come under scrutiny for the lack of transparency with his personal finances and taxes. He told Lauer that releasing any more information than what is required will give his opposition a chance to use it against him.

?We just laid out exactly what is required by law, which is all of our financial statements and then in addition, two years of tax reports just like John McCain put out,?? he said. ?We looked at what he did, and we?ve done the same thing. It?s hundreds of pages of documents, and my guess is if you decide to do more and more and more, you just give, if you will, the opposition a chance to distort and twist and be dishonest about more material.??

At the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., from Aug. 27-30, Romney will officially receive his party?s nomination for president. He knows the themes of his nomination speech, but has not put pen to paper yet.

?It will be a great moment and it will be an opportunity to talk about who we are, but also our vision for the country,?? Mitt said. ?I think this has to be an American century as we go forward. I?m concerned that we?re drifting in a direction right now that is not showing the best side of America.??

?I think it?s an extraordinary responsibility that both of us have right now that we can represent the world in such an important and significant way,?? Ann said. ?I think it will be an opportunity for the first time for the American people to really take a look at us as people, as individuals and who we really are and what motivates us. For me, it?s going to be a moment of great pride.??

Before he has to worry about making more difficult political decisions, Romney was put on the spot by Lauer for a more pressing decision: Will it be Michael Phelps or Ryan Lochte when they swim head-to-head?

?I think it?s more likely to be Phelps, but I don?t know,?? he laughed.

Eight co-sponsors of ?audit the Fed? bill vote against it without explanation

The House of Representatives approved Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul?s ?Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2012? by a wide margin in a 327-98 vote Wednesday. But lost in the bipartisan revelry was the fact that eight co-sponsors of the legislation actually voted against it.

Spokesmen for each of these congressmen were contacted by The Daily Caller on Thursday, and none were keen on providing an explanation.

The bill would allow the Government Accountability Office to conduct a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve System, tremendously increasing transparency and accountability, in theory.

All House Republicans voted in favor of the bill, except for New York Rep. Bob Turner. Ninety-seven Democrats ? notably including the party?s House leadership ? voted against the bill, and 89 Democrats voted in favor.

The eight co-sponsors, all Democrats, that voted against their own legislation not only sponsored the 2012 bill, but each also co-sponsored its 2009 incarnation.

A spokesman for California Democratic Rep. Pete Stark merely informed TheDC, ?He did not release a statement,? and declined to explain his about-face.

Spokesmen for the other seven flip-floppers ? Lynn Woolsey of California, John Conyers of Michigan, Maurice Hinchey of New York, Jim McDermott of Washington, Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Steven Rothman of New Jersey and Silvestre Reyes of Texas ? did not respond at all.

Woolsey, Hinchey, Reyes and Rothman are not running for re-election. Woolsey was one of eleven original co-sponsors of the 2009 version.

House opponents of the bill argued that it could result in the politicization of the Federal Reserve?s policymaking. ?Congress has rightly insulated the Fed from short-term political pressures,? said House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat. (SEE ALSO: Kucinich: Federal Reserve ?acts like it?s some kind of high exalted priesthood?)

The eight House Democrats who switched their stance on the issue without an explanation find themselves in good company, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also pulling off a mystifying pivot.

In 2010 and 1995, Reid boasted that he had tried in vain to pass legislation to audit the Fed. The Nevada senator, however, is now refusing to bring the bill, which would fulfill his self-professed yearning, to a Senate vote.

Like the eight congressmen, Reid has ignored requests for comment.

The 2012 Senate bill is sponsored by Ron Paul?s son, Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, and is co-sponsored by 23 Republicans. The 2009 Senate version was introduced by Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders and was co-sponsored by several Democrats, including still-serving Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer of California, Ben Cardin of Maryland, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Jim Webb of Virginia and Ron Wyden of Oregon.

Obama: Republicans Have 'Tipped a Little Bit Over Their Skis' With Attacks

PORTLAND, Ore. - President Obama went on the defensive today over his understanding of small business owners, saying Republicans "may have tipped a little bit over their skis" in their attempts to use his words against him.

"Earlier today Gov. Romney was at it again. He's been twisting my words around to suggest I don't value small business," Obama said of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee at a campaign fundraiser inside the Portland Convention Center, the second time in as many days he has hit back at the Republican attacks.

"In politics you have to endure certain amount of spin. Everybody does it; I understand it. Those are the games that are played in campaigns," he said. "Although I have to say, when people omit entire sentences from a speech and they start splicing and dicing, they may have tipped a little bit over their skis."

The president was referring to a new Romney TV ad and statements by the candidate and his surrogates that have taken out of context a line from one of Obama's speeches.

Republicans say Obama denigrated the success of small business owners on July 13 when he said, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that."

As their attacks have grown in volume, the president's campaign has begun to more aggressively and defensively point out that the "that" to which Obama was referring was the American infrastructure system.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business. you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet," Obama said in Roanoke, Va.

Romney and his campaign insist even the spirit of what Obama said shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the economy.

"President Obama said that business owners 'didn't build' their companies, and he meant it," Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams said in a statement to ABC News. "People across this country agree that government isn't responsible for building our nation's businesses. It's just the latest detached remark from an out of touch president who has consistently made life more difficult for job creators and middle-class workers."

The president's rebuttal to Romney on the issue of small businesses for a second straight day suggests heightened concern among Democrats that negative Republican portrayals of Obama might be taking hold.

"I believe with all my heart that it's the drive and ingenuity of Americans who start businesses that lead to their success," Obama said, testifying to his support for small business owners before a friendly crowd. "I believe in the ability for someone who's willing to work hard and turn idea into a profitable business, that's what makes us such a robust economy."

And as he did in a new campaign TV ad released earlier today, the president also tried to clarify his view on the role of government investment in public services and infrastructure as part of a plan to help businesses succeed.

"The idea that what it takes to give our people and businesses best possible chance at success involves individual initiative," he said, "But also us as a nation working together to create a platform for success.

"Mr. Romney disagrees with this, and he's entitled to his opinion. But the approach that he's talking about is not going to help small businesses and it's not going to create more markets for large businesses. He is wrong," Obama said. "We did not build this country on our own, we built it together. And if Mr. Romney doesn't understand that then he doesn't understand what it takes to grow this economy in the 21st century."

EL PASO, Texas (AP) ? George Jefferson was a bigot. A loudmouth. Rude. Obsessed with money. Arrogant. And yet he was one of the most enjoyable, beloved characters in television history.

Much of that credit belongs to Sherman Hemsley, the gifted character actor who gave life to the blustering black Harlem businessman on "The Jeffersons," one of TV's longest running and most successful sitcoms ? particularly noteworthy with its mostly black cast.

The Philadelphia-born Hemsley, who police said late Tuesday died at his home in El Paso, Texas, at age 74, first played George Jefferson on CBS's "All in the Family" before he was spun off onto "The Jeffersons." The sitcom ran for 11 seasons from 1975 to 1985.

With the gospel-style theme song of "Movin' On Up," the hit show depicted the wealthy former neighbors of Archie and Edith Bunker in Queens as they made their way on New York's Upper East Side. Hemsley and the Jeffersons (Isabel Sanford played his wife) often dealt with contemporary issues of racism, but more frequently reveled in the sitcom archetype of a short-tempered, opinionated patriarch trying, often unsuccessfully to control his family.

Hemsley's feisty, diminutive father with an exaggerated strut was a kind of black corollary to Archie Bunker ? a stubborn, high-strung man who had a deep dislike for whites (his favorite word for them was honkies). Yet unlike the blue-collar Bunker, played by Carroll O'Connor, he was a successful businessman whose was as rich as he was crass. His wife, Weezie, was often his foil ? yet provided plenty of zingers as well.

Despite the character's many faults ? money-driven, prejudiced, temperamental, a boor ? Hemsley managed to make the character endearing, part of the reason it stayed on the air for so long. Much like O'Connor's portrayal of Archie Bunker, deep down, Hemsley's Jefferson loved his family, his friends (even the ones he relentlessly teased) and had a good heart. His performance was Emmy and Golden Globe nominated.

"He was a love of a guy" and "immensely talented," Norman Lear, producer of "The Jeffersons" and "All in the Family," said after learning of his death. El Paso police said the actor was found dead at a local home where neighbors said he'd lived for years, and that no foul play is suspected.

"When the Jeffersons moved in next door to the Bunkers, I wanted to deliver the George Jefferson who could stand up to Archie Bunker," Lear recalled Tuesday. "It took some weeks before I remembered having seen Sherman in 'Purlie' on Broadway."

Hemsley read for the part and "the minute he opened his mouth he was George Jefferson," Lear said. Hemsley was smaller than O'Connor's Archie but "he was every bit as strong as Archie," Lear said.

Sherman Alexander Hemsley, though, was far less feisty. The son of a printing press-working father and a factory-working mother, Hemsley served in the Air Force and worked for eight years as a clerk for the Postal Service.

Having studied acting as an adolescent at the Philadelphia Academy of Dramatic Arts, he began acting in New York workshops and theater companies, including the Negro Ensemble Company. For years, he kept his job at the post office while acting at night, before transitioning to acting full-time.

He made his Broadway debut in 1970's "Purlie," a musical adaptation of Ossie Davis' Jim Crow-era play "Purlie Victorious." (Hemsley would later star in a 1981 made-for-TV version of "Purlie," as well.) It was while touring the show that Hemsley was approached by Lear about playing a character on the sitcom that would become "All in the Family."

Hemsley joined the show in 1973, immediately catapulting himself from an obscure theater actor to a hit character on the enormously popular show. Two years later, "The Jeffersons" was spun off. Among the numerous "All in the Family" spin-offs ("Maude," ''Archie Bunker's Place, "704 Hauser"), "The Jeffersons" was the longest-running.

The character, the owner of a chain of dry-cleaning stores, was devised, Hemsley said, as "pompous and feisty."

"All of it was really hard ... because ? rude, I don't like to be that way," Hemsley said in a 2003 interview for the Archive of American Television. "But it was the character, I had to do it. I had to be true to the character. If I was to pull back something, then it just wouldn't work."

And he brought some of his hometown with him. "That dance I do (as George Jefferson), it's the Philly Slop," he told the Philadelphia Daily News in 1996.

After "The Jeffersons" was abruptly cancelled, Hemsley starred in the sitcom "Amen" as a fiery Philadelphia church deacon, Ernest Frye. The show latest five years, running 1986 to 1991.

Jackee Harry, a longtime friend who made appearances on the show, said she and Hemsley had planned to tour in the musical "Ain't Misbehavin'''. She said they had discussed it recently and that he seemed in good health and in good spirits.

"It's a sad, sad, sad day," she said from her home in Beverly Hills, Calif.

She recalled when the two of them were on a Manhattan sidewalk during the era of "The Jeffersons," and passers-by went wild.

"He got mauled and mugged," she laughed. "He said, 'What's all the screaming about?' He was so popular and he didn't even know it."

She described him as "a very private person unlike George Jefferson. But he was very kind and very sweet, and generous to a fault."

Hemsley frequently turned up as a guest on sitcoms like "Family Matters," ''The Hughleys" and even, in a voice role, "Family Guy." He twice reprised George Jefferson, appearing as his famous character on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and, in 2011, on "House of Payne."

Hemsley, whose films include 1979's "Love at First Bite," 1987's "Stewardess School" and 1987's "Ghost Fever," released an album, "Ain't That a Kick in the Head," in 1989.

In an interview with the Gloucester County Times in 2011, Hemsley said his show business career actually began in childhood.

"Making people laugh was automatic," he said. "I was in a play in elementary school and had to jump up and run away. I was nervous and tripped and fell down and everyone laughed. Their laughter made me relax, so I pretended it was part of the show."

"I always told my mother I wanted a job where I could have a lot of fun and have a lot of time off," Hemsley added. "She asked me where I was going to find that, and I said, 'I don't know, but it's out there.'"

NEVADA, Mo. (AP) ? The western Missouri city of Nevada is embarking on a health care initiative which organizers hope could become a model for communities around the nation.

The goal is to improve both the health of the residents and the quality of health care they receive.

The Kansas City-based health care technology company Cerner is teaming up with local officials on the initiative. The city?s hospital will spend $10 million on an electronic medical records system that will allow information to be shared with the town?s two dozen doctors and medical experts in bigger cities.

Nevada?s city government may build bike lanes and sidewalks to encourage exercise. An educational campaign will promote better nutrition and health screenings. And residents will compete in fitness challenges like walking and weight-loss contests.

96% First Position

All Critics (52) | Top Critics (23) | Fresh (50) | Rotten (2)

It does a great job developing its characters through its visuals - these are superphysical kids - and honing in on family dynamics.

If you have a yearning to feel awkward, inadequate and lazy, watching the whirling teenage (and preteen) talents in director Bess Kargman's First Position will do the trick.

A number of the performances are plain stunning - Aran and Joan, in particular, seem born to move - and in many ways watching the movie is like watching a sporting event; there are winners and losers and favorites to cheer on.

It's an intense journey, and Kargman captures it all, down to the dancers' bloodied and bruised feet.

Yes, it is possible to create a gripping documentary about the ballet world without resorting to "Black Swan" melodramatics.

Because its subjects are so driven and so talented, "First Position," which is about ballet, is more gripping than the norm.

Far from the dutiful progeny of "Dance Moms," these are individuals of uncommon skill, self-knowledge, maturity and drive. They're the real deal. And so is First Position.

All of the dollars and expertise that produced this summer's blockbusters could never produce a spectacle as wondrous as 11-year-old Aran Bell dancing his heart out.

Kargman ... brings a welcome empathy to this programmatic film that follows six hopefuls as they compete in something called the Youth America Grand Prix, which we're told is the most comprehensive ballet competition in the world.

The children are almost unearthly in their agility and elegance -- until they remove their shoes, and reveal their all-too-human abrasions and injuries.

It's a wealth of material at odds with a scant running time and shallow focus.

When it's over, you won't remember so much about who won and who lost. Instead, what remains is the expression on a young dancer's face, reflected in a mirror: showing the joy of being in love with what you do.

What we experience is the overwhelming thrill of the competition and the true agony of defeat.

It could very well compete for Best Documentary at next year's Academy Awards.

For someone (like me) who has never been to a ballet, the talent of these teens and tweens is a revelation.

It's 'Spartacus' en pointe.

Inspiring documentary about hardworking young dancers.

Almost loses its sense of good taste entirely in the final act, straining to build suspense and shape heroes. The bias hangs a little ugly in an otherwise passable, somewhat enlightening effort.

The cookie cutter format Kargman uses in presenting her subjects may be unoriginal but a safe way to introduce the filmmaker to her new audience.

Child ballet dancer and former journalist Bess Kargman brings a dancer's passion and insight to her directorial debut, illuminating the addictive magic and fierce demands of a ballet dancer's life.

Really, all of the dancers' evident passion for their art is, well, spellbinding.

The Metal Roofing Sandwich: Four Layers for a Rust-Resistant Metal ...

You might not spare your metal roof structure a second glimpse; to be honest, you feel it is nothing but a piece of construction material. As you take a closer look, however, you will observe that the metal roofing is sort of a sandwich, a piece of steel sandwiched between 2 defensive layers. It is a sandwich that resists corrosion extremely well.

The steel in most metal roofing supplies is protected by 4 layers, with every layer featuring its own role. The coats cover both bottom and top sides of the steel, enabling it to always be shielded all around. Without having these coats, a metal roof might be vulnerable to deterioration and rust. Here are the 4 layers in accordance with the Metal Roofing Alliance.

Paint and primer: These two coats are similar to the Olsen twins of metal roofing. The paint gives the roof its color and overall fa?ade, whilst the primer helps the paint stay on the roof surface. A coating of primer should be applied initially if you'd like your metal roof structure to change its color.

Paint on roofs, however, can certainly do more than simply help your home look lovely. Research shows that painting your home's roof in light colors just like white can assist with a house's electricity bills by reflecting more solar power and heat energy. Get your choice of paint properly mainly because it is the very first thing everybody spots on the roof, much less the entire property.

Pre-treatment: The third coating includes a zinc phosphate pre-treatment layer that is important in preserving the roof from corrosion. Zinc phosphate is a pigment utilized just like a primer as it helps make the paint adhere to the metal roofing itself. In the event the paint chips off, the resulting spaces may be entry points for catalysts to corrode the roof material. A lot of roofers Portland homeowners rely on supply metal roofs pretreated as a means of further rust defense.

Galvalume or galvanized: For the majority of metal roofs, roofing contractors Portland property owners put their trust in offer a choice between galvanized or galvalume roofing. As the coating before the piece of steel, the galvanized coat is pure zinc, an active metal that by natural means forms a rust-resistant shield once it makes contact with the oxygen. Galvalume, on the other hand, is a blend of zinc and aluminum.

To learn more details on the complexities of metal roofing layers, go to the official site of Metal Roofing Alliance at MetalRoofing.com. For easy methods to keep the shine and proper protection of metal roofing, contact a specialist who can conduct Portland roof cleaning or repair.

ASUS Transformer Prime, TF300 and Infinity TF700 getting Jelly Bean in 'the coming months'

Hot on the heels of HTC confirming a Jelly Bean upgrade for select handsets, ASUS released a statement (pasted after the break) assuring tablet owners that all of the company's new tablets, at least, will be upgraded to Android 4.1. So far, the outfit is committing to updating the Transformer Prime, along with the Transformer Pads TF300 and TF700. Though ASUS is careful to say it's considering other devices, it's still not promising to upgrade the original Eee Pad Transformer or Eee Pad Slider. No word, exactly, on when users will get a taste of Project Butter and Google Now, except that it should happen within "the coming months." Hopefully, of course, that's just an outside estimate: after all, ASUS isn't known for saddling its tablets with heavily customized skins, which can bog down the upgrade cycle.

Understanding those Sign and Drive Car Loans - Open World ...

July 21, 2012 on 4:57 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Why people with bad credit normally will not qualify for a sign and drive program

Understanding car loans

Auto loan applicants with low credit scores sometimes ask if they will qualify for a sign and drive auto loan.

We know the answer to this and many other questions as weve spent the last twenty years helping people with car credit issues here at Auto Credit Express. Its also why our website addresses such topics as repossession as well as the issue at hand, sign and drive car loans.

Sign and drive

Sign and drive is a car finance program, but in this case it refers to type of new car leasing. With sign and drive, qualified buyers can begin leasing a vehicle by paying only the taxes, title and license fees. Under most lease programs, buyers are also required to make the first monthly payment plus a security deposit as part of the upfront costs.

Sign and drive with low credit scores

Practically all subprime auto loans are for buying, not leasing, a car. Not only is leasing rarely available to credit-challenged customers, the sign and drive lease option is typically available only to lease customers with the best credit scores. So its easy to see that customers with credit issues will not qualify for this type of new car finance program.

Down payment issues

One reason applicants with credit problems ask about sign and drive program is because they dont have enough of a down payment. The fact is, nearly all subprime auto lenders require a down payment in the form of cash or real trade equity. This is done to increase the odds that a borrower will make regular, timely loan payments.

Look at it from the lenders point of view: with little or no money invested especially during the early part of a loan when a car is worth less than the loan balance, its much easier for a buyer to just walk away from a loan. But with their money invested in the car, its more likely that same person would continue to make payments. Due to this fact, most lenders require a down payment of at least ten percent or $1,000, whichever is less.

Taking the first step

Dont be discouraged if youre unable to qualify for a sign and drive lease. While the program is not an option for buyers with bad credit, there is something that can be done.

By initially taking out an auto loan with a high-risk lender and making payments on time, you can establish your auto credit, raise your FICO scores and eventually qualify for one of those sign and drive programs.

In fact, at Auto Credit Express our specialty is placing applicants that have had credit difficulties with dealers that can offer them their best chance at approved auto loans.

So if youre serious about getting your car credit back on track, you can begin by filling out our online auto loans application now.

Verizon wireline disappoints, shares off 2.9 pct

(Reuters) - Weakness in Verizon Communications Inc's enterprise business offset a better-than-expected wireless quarter, sending the telephone company's shares down 2.9 percent.

After pushing Verizon's shares up 14 percent so far this year, investors focused in on the wireline miss on Thursday even as Verizon handily beat Wall Street estimates for wireless subscriber growth and profitability.

While earnings per share (EPS) met Wall Street expectations for the quarter, analyst said that wasn't enough.

"The view by investors is that wireline stole the EPS benefit of a great wireless quarter," Nomura analyst Michael McCormack said.

Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo told analysts on a conference call that Verizon's enterprise business was hurt by foreign exchange rates and a decision to stop selling some customer equipment and, to a lesser extent, by macroeconomic challenges in Europe.

But McCormack said the world economy's impact may have been understated.

"The global economy may be more sluggish than people believe at this point. It seems (for) anything outside large multinationals, you're seeing very sluggish buying behaviour," he said.

Verizon's wireline revenue fell 3.4 percent in the quarter to $9.93 billion compared with Wall Street expectations of $10.03 billion, according to the company.

PRICE INCREASES

While Verizon saw strong revenue growth in its consumer wireline business, Shammo said its addition of 120,000 net new FiOS television customers was weaker than it expected as an unusually high number of people moved from the FiOS region.

Shammo said Verizon was reducing its target estimate for future FiOS TV growth to 150,000 to 170,000 from its previous estimate of 180,000 to 200,000 as the company is increasing its prices to focus more on the profitability of the service.

The executive told Reuters that he expects Verizon's wireline revenue growth rate from consumer services to rise to 5 percent by the end of the year from 2.5 percent in the second quarter as the company plans more price increases.

The company raised prices in the second quarter with service packages that include higher Internet speeds, but Shammo warned there would be more price increases for TV bundles.

"We started in the second quarter but there's more on the plate for the third and fourth quarter," Shammo said.

Guggenheim Securities analyst Sing Yin said consumers may have no choice but to pay higher fees for TV as programmers increase their rates. He also expects them to embrace pricier Internet services.

"They're counting on consumers being willing to pay more for better speed. So far, there is evidence there is demand for higher speeds at higher prices," Yin said.

WIRELESS BEATS ESTIMATES

In response to rumours about a dividend payment, Shammo said that the board of the company's Verizon Wireless venture with Vodafone Group Plc does not plan to discuss a distribution at its next quarterly board meeting.

Vodafone shares fell 1.7 percent in London trading after the comment.

Verizon Wireless added 888,000 net new subscribers in the quarter, compared with the average expectation of about 666,000 of seven analysts.

"That's a terrific number," Roe Equity Research analyst Kevin Roe said, noting that Wall Street does not expect No. 2 mobile provider AT&T Inc to add even half as many customers in the quarter.

The growth at the No. 1 U.S. mobile provider probably came at the expense of smaller rivals Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA in particular, as those companies have been struggling to stem customer losses, Roe said.

The company said that 50 percent of its wireless customers were using smartphones by the end of the second quarter, up from 47 percent at the end of the first quarter. Since smartphone customers spend more than customers with basic phones, Verizon has been pushing to increase its smartphone penetration.

Verizon Wireless launched new shared data service plans June 28 that raised its data fees in exchange for letting customers connect multiple devices under one plan. The plan is aimed at getting consumers to more devices to its network.

While the shared data launch was too late in the quarter to have an effect on the company's results, Shammo said that early consumer feedback had been "great."

Verizon's wireless service margin based on earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization was 49 percent, ahead of average estimates of five analysts for just above 47 percent.

Verizon's second-quarter profit rose to $1.83 billion, or 64 cents per share, from $1.61 billion, or 57 cents per share, a year earlier. The results were in line with analysts' estimates, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Revenue rose to $28.552 billion from $27.54 billion, while analysts were expecting $28.558 billion.

Verizon said on Thursday that its 2012 capital spending would be little changed or lower than its 2011 budget of $16.2 billion. During the company's last earnings call, Shammo had expected 2012 spending to be about the same as in 2011.

The company said it was on track for growth in full-year earnings in the double-digit percentage range, implying a rise of at least 10 percent.

It expected profit margins in its wireline business to continue to improve in the second half of the year after increasing in the second quarter from the first quarter.

Verizon hopes to improve earnings by reducing costs in negotiations for new terms for a labour contract covering 45,000 workers but the company appeared to be nowhere nearer to an agreement on Thursday almost a year after its workers went on strike to protest the cuts Verizon wants to make.

On Thursday afternoon, Verizon's unions said they had requested mediation services for the talks because they had gone on too long. Verizon rejected the request.

Verizon's shares closed down $1.35, or 2.9 percent, at $44.54 on New York Stock Exchange, which was still up 11 percent from the end of 2011.
